Esteban Carlos Reyes (1960-2012)
He was Nancy's 3rd Husband.
Appearance[]
Esteban Reyes was a politician, drug kingpin, and gangster. Esteban is introduced when Nancy ventures into the tunnel and starts looking around. She peeks inside an underground room and sees Esteban with Cesar and many other men. Nancy later said that Esteban was a Taurus (Season 7).
Esteban becomes an antagonist toward the end of season 4 because Nancy told the DEA about his tunnel to Mexico after she discovered he was trafficking women, guns and other drugs, like cocaine and heroin.
Esteban and Nancy's relationship became strained in season 5 due to her betrayal and his constant threats to murder her, but with Nancy being pregnant with his child, Esteban ultimately ended up proposing to her. He is later convinced to break off the engagement by his associate, Pilar, after she warned him that his run for governor would be negatively impacted.
After living without Nancy and his newborn son for a short while, Esteban realized his mistake and again proposed to Nancy, causing Pilar to revoke his candidacy for governor. Nancy then convinced Esteban to run as an Independent candidate.
With Esteban running a successful gubernatorial campaign and his marriage to Nancy, things start to look up for the Reyes-Botwin family, until Pilar arranges for Esteban's arrest and begins blackmailing him, resulting in him running for governor on her platform once again.
At the end of season 5, Shane murders Pilar in front of Nancy with a croquet mallet after she threatens Nancy with the deaths of both him and Silas. As a result, Nancy and the rest of the Botwins go on the run and settle in Seattle for season 6, while Esteban and his crew work to find them.
After Esteban and Guillermo locate Nancy and attempt to kidnap her, she confesses to Pilar's murder in order to save her own life and protect Shane. Both she and Esteban are sent to prison.
It's learned at the beginning of season 7 that Esteban was murdered in prison and his cartel disbanded.
